When the hem of a top is curled downward and higher on the sides than the front and back, it is said to have a round hem. When the shirt is worn untucked, the curvature is attractive due to five factors.
A straight hem produces a strong horizontal line across the body that is broken by this design.
It increases vertical focus and draws the attention upward.
By displaying more of your leg on either side, it lengthens the leg line.
It adds structure and visual intrigue to an outfit.
It makes the top appear shorter in length.
However, circular hems that are too short don’t look great, especially when paired with pants or jeans. My taller clients in particular need to make sure that their round hem tops are long enough, I’ve discovered. This is why petites look especially attractive with the hemline.
Fitted and voluminous forms, as well as knit and woven fabrics, all benefit from round hems. As can be seen in fotos below, the lengths range from tunic to standard length (a few cm below the crotch point). Here’s a piece of advice: try pairing your round hem blouse with a skirt rather than jeans and pants if you think it looks too short. In general, skirts look better with shorter shirts.
Do you usually wear rounded-hem tops? Are they more attractive to you than straight hems?
